Invictus Games London 2014 (11th-14th September 2014)

Invictus Games

Contracted to CSM, the appointed Event Delivery Partner for Invictus Games London 2014, House Solutions provided Director Simon Adby for a five-month period to support the operational event delivery of the Invictus Games.

Over 400 competitors from 13 nations competed across 9 adaptive sports in the inaugural Invictus Games, an international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick Servicemen and women. The event, conceived and championed by HRH Prince Harry, celebrated the resilience and passion of Armed Forces personnel and veterans who have put their lives on the line for their country demonstrating how they and their families are valued, respected and supported. Invictus Games was hosted across six London venues: Lee Valley Athletics Centre, Mayesbrook Park, and venues on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (QEOP): Copperbox Arena, London Aquatics Centre, Velopark and Here East.

Working to extremely tight timescales Simon successfully contributed to the planning, preparation and delivery the six event venues and QEOP, security and stewarding, logistical operations, and, the volunteer workforce. As a strategic lead he conceived and delivered the Concept of Operations and implemented an associated command, control and communications structure. Whilst leading the venue-based planning additional responsibilities included recruitment of a comprehensive event workforce, management of respective contracted suppliers, and associated budget management. Simon engaged with numerous stakeholders including high-ranking military personnel, London Legacy Development Corporation, and representatives of prominent leisure and venue operators. During event delivery Simon oversaw the representation of each venue team in Event Control, alongside other Event Leadership Team members, attending regular briefings and making operational decisions where required.

Further to Simon’s role, Active House Solutions were also contracted to provide additional resource, amounting to a workforce of circa 30 personnel.

The event surpassed all stakeholder expectations, which has provided the momentum to continue it’s inspirational journey to other parts of the world; Orlando 2016 being the next event. CSM have since been recognised for their achievements by receiving awards for Best Live Experience of 2014 at the 2015 BT Sport Industry Awards, and, Best Sporting Event courtesy of the Event Production Awards 2015.
